Print no. 34 of the series: "Rokujuyoshu meisho zue" ("The sixty odd Provinces: Pictures of...") Label Text: Province of Echigo: the steep rocky knoll called Oyashirazu (Heedless of parent), on the shore of the Japan Sea. The name signifies that the danger of falling from the cliffs is so great that people would not heed even their parents were thay sharers of the peril.--Gookin The steep rocky cliff called Oyashirazu ("Ignoring parents") on the shore of the Sea of Japan dominates this scene. The name implies that the danger of falling from the cliff is so great that one would not even save one's parents if they went over the wave-beaten rocks.--Swinton
