描述:
Kuwana, the forty-third station on the Tökaidö, was an important harbor town even before the Edo period (1615-1868). It was the second largest station on the Tökaidö Road, with 120 inns for travelers. The building on the right, located on top of a stone wall, is Kuwana Castle, which was occupied by several warlords over its long history. The forest behind the castle is portrayed in gradations of black and gray, reminiscent of traditional Chinese or Japanese monochrome ink paintings. At the same time, the somewhat awkward recession of the castle to the right utilizes Western perspective, as does the view on the left, with the slightly tipped ground plane receding into the far distance towards the horizon.
