In this print, Hiroshige depicts travelers on Mount Asama pausing to enjoy teahouse refreshments and the spectacular view of Ise Bay. The Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines of Ise were the most popular in Japan, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year.
