Artists did not usually sign erotic books because they feared punishment. This is the first page of an erotic album, the second page of which demonstrates explicitly that the worldly male client is enjoying the favors of both the young man and the young woman. Here the woman rests her hand on the man's shoulder, as they both watch the handsome young man (wakashu) writing a poem with a brush upon a large sheet of paper.
