Print no. 57 of the series: "Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces" Tosa Province is represented in the series by its most famous product: bonito (skipjack tuna). Here, fishermen in five boats are landing fish. Before the 1900s when bluefin tuna became popular, bonito was the most sought-after catch. Among the many ways it was consumed, bonito was dried, fermented, and used as a main ingredient in dashi broth, a foundation of Japanese cooking.
