KAWASE HASUI UNICEF CARDS Artist: Kawase Hasui (1888-1957) Print: Lithograph reproduction (THIS IS NOT A WOODBLOCK PRINT!) Title or subject: Santa Claus Signed/Sealed: Signed and Sealed Hasui Edition: Un-limited Edition Image Size: 4 1/4 X 4 3/4 inches Card Size: 4 1/2 X 7 inches Comment: This design was an original woodblock print for a front page of a Japanese monthly book (Japan Trade Monthly). The design does not appear in the Hotei Hasui Reference. The Chairman of UNICEF found the design somewhere and asked permission to have it published as a Christmas card for UNICEF. The owner of Watanabe Shozaburo told me that the original woodblocks have been lost and that the print cannot be printed as a woodblock.
