From the supplement of "Dai Chikamatsu Zenshu" (The complete Works of Chikamatsu). The heroine Yugiri in the play, "Yugiri Awa no Naruto". This print is also known as "The Departed Spirit of a Courtesan". Shima Seien was one of the very few well known woman artists in pre-war Japan.
