Print no. 41 of the series: "Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces" Rice was such an important crop that feudal lords measured their wealth by it and farmers paid their taxes with it. In the foreground, farmers in straw hats and rain capes transplant rice seedlings into flooded paddy fields. In the background, shrouded in mist, is Mount Daisen, the spiritual heart of the area. The mountain had a Shinto shrine and Buddhist temple, and served as a center for mountain worship.
