Saturday, 1 December 2007 Title "Geisha -- August" ("Hachigatsu") Series "The Pride of Tokyo's Twelve Months" ("Tokyo Jiman Junikagetsu") Date 1880 Publisher Inoue Mobei (Tokyo) Carver Katata Hori Cho Image Size 9 1/2 x 14 3/8 Impression Very fine. Expert "bokashi" shading to face, lantern, blue collar, cartouche and background; light "gauffrage" to blue collar; crisp, highly detailed carving of individual hairlines. Condition Very good. Excellent colors. Minor marks, minor wormage (left margin, bottom, and lower right). Full original margins ("kento mark" lower right corner); unbacked. Reference/Illus na Comments A geisha with hand-held fan enjoys the cool breeze as she watches the moon rise over Edo Bay. Item # CG-706
