Saturday, 14 May 2005 Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1908) Mitsui miyako no nishiki - Mitsui-brocade pictures from the capitol city. Title: The seasons and their fashions. 12 woodblock prints and a title page as a picture handscroll. At twelve pictures ladies and girls are shown in different surroundings doing various activities, always dressed suitable for the season. The title page shows an opened book with flowers in the background. Signature: Toshikata. Seal: Sho, Setsu. Publisher: Akiyama Buemon, Tokyo. Date: 1896/97. Size: 13 Aiban as a picture handscroll. Perfect impression and fresh colours with much silver, gradations of colour (bokashi), and relief printing. Excellent condition. Paper sometimes a little bit time-stained at the margins.
