Friday, 1 December 2006 Japanese woodblock print, huge limited-edition Kaoru Kawano. Measures about 22 x 15 plus full margins. Pencil signed and numbered in an edition of 200. There is extensive use of silver mica in the image, giving the print a shimmery quality when illuminated. On the back of the print, there is an attached tag which says that it was carved and printed by the artist himself. Clean white paper, no condition problems to note. A very rare image, I think; it is one I have never seen before. Titled "Woodpecker B". A wonderfully whimsical print from an artist who is finally receiving the attention and appreciation he has long deserved.
