This print depicts the famous dance performance (shosagoto) called “Spirits of Mandarin Ducks (Oshidori ).” Many dance performances were based on the Mandarin Duck theme, which symbolizes marital bliss and fidelity. (from “Capturing Actor’s Spirit / Shunshö” exhibition 1/15/2009-)
