Colour woodblock print, an oban diptych from an album of 117 sheets. The kabuki actors Iwai Hanshiro V (right sheet) as Shirai Gonpachi, standing with swords, and Matsumoto Koshiro V (left sheet) as Banzui Chobei standing in front of a palanquin; in the ‘Suzugamori’ scene from the play ‘Banzui Chobei shojin manaita’ (幡随長兵衛精進爼板) by Sakurada Jisuke I performed at the Nakamura theatre in the 3rd month of 1818.
