Colour woodblock print, an oban diptych from an album of 117 sheets. The kabuki actors Matsumoto Koshiro V (left sheet) as Dotetsu, standing on a balcony with a scroll in his hands and a short sword in his mouth, and Iwai Hanshiro V (right) as Shinzo Takao; in the play ‘Shikisemono Soga no datezome’, (also ‘Shikisezome Soga no datezome’) by Tsuruya Nanboku IV, performed at the Morita-za in the 1st month of 1813.
