Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro is in the role of tattooed Danshichi Kurobei who just murdered Giheiji (right inset: played by Ichikawa Sadanji). He is washing off blood from himself with a bucket of water. Morning glories were depicted in the subtle sumi-e style on the background indicating it is already in the morning.
