"Tokaido Gojusantsugi no Uchi" (Fifty-three Stations of Tokaido). Soga Juro Sukenari (left panel) and his love Tora at Oiso station. This large Tokaido series was commonly called, "Yakusha Tokaido" (Kabuki Actor's Tokaido). It was actually meant to be the bust portrait of kabuki actors whose names were not mentioned because of the censorship banning the luxury or pleasure items. The background scenes are serial.
